The Texas A&M Board of Regents is expected to approve the hiring of Air Force defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter at Thursday's meeting.
The hiring of DeRuyter, who will replace the retired Joe Kines, has been expected for more than a week.
The 47-year-old DeRuyter just completed his third year at Air Force, where he graduated in 1985.
The Falcons were 11th in total defense in 2009, allowing 288.3 yards per game. Air Force was 78th (354.7) the season before DeRuyter arrived.
Air Force capped an 8-5 season with a 47-20 victory over Houston in the Fort Worth Bowl. The Falcons limited UH to a season-low 222 yards passing and intercepted quarterback Case Keenum six times.
