The fifth-seeded Cowgirls (15-7-0) earned the automatic bid into the NCAA tournament, which starts Friday.

"We have to play for 90 minutes and I think we played for about 40, and that's not good enough for a team of this caliber," A&M coach G. Guerrieri said. "Oklahoma State did a good job of battling and scraping to keep us off the scoreboard and their goalkeeper was great."

The second-seeded Aggies (14-6-2) will learn their NCAA fate Monday when the selections are announced at 7 p.m. on ESPNews. Texas A&M entered the Big 12 tournament ranked 20th nationally.

The Cowgirls applied pressure in the first 25 minutes of the match, but the Aggies only allowed one shot on goal. A&M had a few counter attacks, and Rachel Shipley fired off two shots from around the 18-yard box that went wide.

In the 33rd minute, A&M's Chelsea Jones controlled the ball in the Aggies' attacking third and dribbled to the top of the penalty box before striking a one-hopper into the arms of OSU goalkeeper Adrianna Franch.

A&M had several scoring opportunities in the second half, but each time the shots were turned away by Franch.

In the 83rd minute, Whitney Hooper served the ball to Kim Castleberry in the box, where it was cleared out by the OSU defense to the foot of A&M's Bri Young. She sent a driving ball back in that Katie Hamilton got a touch on, but Franch stopped the shot.

A shot by Hooper with less than two minutes remaining was also turned away for Franch's seventh and final save.

A&M outshot OSU 12-11. The Aggies also held the advantage in shots on goal, 7-3.

"The second half we came out and created some good chances and their goalkeeper came out and made some big-time saves that you have to give them credit for," Guerrieri said.

Its the first time the Cowgirls have won the Big 12 tournament since 2003. The Aggies were victorious in 2004 and 2005, and they were the runners-up in 2007.
