COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Texas A&M had a pair of Top 3 finishers Saturday during the USA Junior Championships at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on Saturday, while another couple of Aggies advanced to the 400 meter final.

Incoming freshman Vashti Thomas placed second in the 100 hurdles with a time of 13.62 seconds as she fell at the finish line. Florida State's Teona Rodgers won the race in 13.60.

The top two finishers in each race qualify for the IAAF World Junior Championships in Poland, provided they have met the qualifying standard.

A&M's Tyron Stewart finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 51 feet, 10 1/2 inches. Teammate Melvin Echard placed fifth with a distance of 51-1 3/4. North Carolina's Austin Davis won the event at 52-8 1/4 effort.

Jessica Beard and Bryan Miller both advanced through the opening round of the 400. Beard posted the top time of 53.42, while Miller had the fifth-fastest mark in the men's race at 47.12.

Action at the meet was delayed for nearly two hours because of a combination of high winds, rain and lightning in the area.
