SOCCER
Aggies beat St. Mary's: MORAGA, Calif. -- The 10th-ranked Texas A&M soccer team scored a pair of first-half goals to get past Saint Mary's 2-1 on Sunday.
A&M (3-2) converted on two set pieces to build the early lead. Six of the Aggies' 13 shots were on goal.
The Gaels (2-3), who defeated Texas two days earlier, were held to two shots -- one of which was a successful penalty kick by Jessica Menzhuber.
A&M peppered St. Mary's goalkeeper Tara Larson with eight first-half shots, striking first in the 27th minute. Junior Rachel Shipley played a corner kick into the penalty area, where the Saint Mary's defense attempted to clear the ball back towards midfield. Sophomore Becca Herrera got to the ball and sent a chip in behind the back line, where sophomore Bri Young was able to redirect it past Larson and into the net.
In the 41st minute, Young took a free kick from a few yards outside the penalty area and sent it to sophomore Rachael Balaguer, who sent a low, hard cross across the goal box. Senior Amber Gnatzig put it in the net.
The Aggies visit defending national champion North Carolina at 1 p.m. Saturday.

A&M wins in Corbelli's homecoming: SAN FRANCISCO -- Texas A&M volleyball coach Laurie Corbelli returned Sunday to the school where she began her head coaching career 24 years ago, and the Aggies made her homecoming a happy one with a 25-15, 25-23, 25-23 victory over the San Francisco Dons.
After losing in five sets to St. Mary's late Saturday, the Aggies (4-1) took control of the first set Sunday with a six-point run.
