The Aggies were unranked in the preseason poll. Duke, which was ranked sixth, dropped to 11th.

A&M's jump was one of the biggest jumps in the AP poll in the last decade.

Doerge a finalist for Rhodes Scholarship: Texas A&M swimmer Ella Doerge has been selected as a finalist for the Rhodes Scholarship and will travel to Houston on Nov. 20 to participate in selection interviews, the Texas A&M Honors Programs announced Monday.

If selected as a Rhodes Scholar, Doerge, a senior genetics major from Clive, Iowa, will be among a select group of 32 outstanding college students in the United States and would pursue a Master of Science degree in clinical embryology at the University of Oxford.

Texas A&M has produced seven Rhodes Scholars in its history, the most recent being Nick Anthis (Class of 2005). He completed his doctorate at Oxford and is now completing a post-doctorate fellowship at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md.
