Aggie breaks 100 backstroke record again: Texas A&M's Julia Wilkinson broke the Canadian record in the 100-meter backstroke for the third time in four months Thursday at the Canadian Summer Nationals.

Wilkinson finished in 1 minute, 0.59 seconds, breaking the former mark of 1:01.41 she swam in the final at the Canadian Olympic trials.

Wilkinson, the Big 12 Swimmer of the Year, is qualified for the Olympics in Beijing and could swim in as many as seven events.

TRACK & FIELD

Two more Aggies heading to Olympics: Two former Texas A&M track and field athletes were chosen this week to compete in the Olympics in Beijing beginning on Aug. 15, when the track and field portion of the event begins.

Great Britain's Tyrone Edgar was selected to be part of his country's 400-meter relay team after placing fourth in the 100 during Britain's Olympic trials.

Australia's Fabrice Lapierre also earned a spot in the long jump. He has jumped over 26 feet three times over a month's span and won the City Sports meet in Cork, Ireland, with a mark of 26-1.

Other athletes with A&M track and field ties entered in the Olympics include: American Erica (Boren) Bartolina in the pole vault; American Muna Lee (100, 200, 400 relay); Canadian Richard Adu-Bobie (400 relay); Grenada's Allison George (100, 200); Grenada's Alleyne Francique (400); Jamaica's Simone Facey (400 relay).

Pair of Aggies to compete in Mexico: TOLUCA, Mexico -- Texas A&M All-Americans Nick Robinson and Chris Dykes will compete in the NACAC Under-23 Championships beginning Friday at Alberto Cordoba Stadium. Robinson will compete in the 400-meter hurdles while Dykes is a member of the 400 relay team.

The meet is held every two years in one of 32 member nations in the North America, Central America and Caribbean Athletic Association.
