SWIMMING

Heiss, Marshall selected to national team: Texas A&M swimmers Kristen Heiss and Christine Marshall have been named to the 2008-09 USA Swimming National Team.

The six fastest American swimmers in each event were named to the U.S. squad based on times swam at the 2008 Olympic Games, Olympic Trials and the U.S. Open.

Heiss made the team in the 200-meter backstroke and the 400 freestyle. Heiss earned the silver medal at the U.S. Open in Minneapolis last month in times of 2:09.99 and 4:09.25, respectively.

Marshall made the Olympic team in the 200 freestyle, and she swam in the prelims of the 800 freestyle relay to become the first swimmer from A&M to represent the United States at the Olympics.

Marshall won a bronze medal on the 800 freestyle relay team, becoming A&M's first female Olympic swimming medalist.
