EQUESTRIAN

A&M to host Kansas State today: The Texas A&M equestrian team will host Kansas State at 10 a.m. Friday at the Brazos County Expo Complex. A&M is 5-3, while KSU is 3-6. Admission is free.

GOLF

Aggie men move from ninth into third at Burns Intercollegiate: WAHIAWA, Hawaii -- The 25th-ranked Texas A&M men's golf team shot 10 under in the second round and moved from ninth into third place Thursday at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate at Leilehua Golf Course.

A&M (564) trails leader Arizona (556) by eight strokes heading into Friday's final round. New Mexico is in second at 562.

Sophomore Conrad Shindler led the Aggies with a 5-under 67, while junior Andrea Pavan shot a 69, senior Bronson Burgoon shot 70, sophomore Nacho Elvira shot 72 and freshman Geoff Shaw shot a 76.

"We did a lot better job today," A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. "We were a little tense yesterday and played a lot more free and loose today. The guys handled it well and put together a good round. We are in a lot better frame of mind and have a chance to come out and post a great final round."

Elvira (67-72-139) is tied for eighth individually, five strokes behind leader Tarquin Macmanus of Arizona (64-70-134). Burgoon is tied for 15th (70-70-140), Shindler is tied for 31st (76-67-143), Pavan is tied for 37th (75-69-144) and Shaw is tied for 72nd (74-76-150).

A&M senior Matt Van Zandt, competing as an individual, is tied for 55th (69-78-147).

Nevada is in fourth place at 565, followed by No. 9 Arkansas (566), SMU (567), Auburn (569), San Diego (571), Denver (571), BYU (573), Colorado State (574), No. 20 UNLV (575), UC Santa Barbara (576), Hawaii (586), San Jose State (590), Texas-El Paso (593) and Hawaii-Hilo (600).

SOFTBALL

A&M to open play in Houston tournament: The Texas A&M softball team (5-6) will play two games Friday in the Marriott Houston Invitational at the University of Houston. The Aggies will play Northern Ilinois (0-0) at 11 a.m. and Prairie View A&M (3-4) at 1 p.m.

TRACK & FIELD

A&M teams maintain ranking: The Texas A&M women remained No. 1 and the Aggie men remained No. 4 in this week's United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association Top 25 poll.

Oregon, Tennessee, Michigan and Penn State are ranked after the A&M women. The Oregon men are No. 1 followed by Arkansas and Florida State.
