Aggies in fourth at West Regional: DALY CITY, Calif. -- The 12th-ranked Texas A&M men's golf team is in fourth place after the second of three rounds at the NCAA Men's Golf West Regional on Friday at the Lake Merced Golf Club. Matt Van Zandt and Andrea Pavan led A&M with 1-under 71s on Thursday as the Aggies shot a team score of 286 to stand at 567.

No. 14 Arizona State leads the regional at 554. Oregon is second at 560 followed by San Diego (566), A&M, Southern California (569), San Francisco (571), New Mexico (572), San Diego State (573) and UC-Irvine (576).

The top five teams will advance to the NCAA Championships on May 25-30 in Toledo, Ohio.

Also for A&M, John Hurley (67-72-139) is tied for fifth individually, while Bronson Burgoon is at 69-72-141, Pavan is at 72-71-143, Van Zandt is at 73-71-144, and Nacho Elvira is at 75-73-148.

TRACK & FIELD

Three Aggies place on Day 1 at Big 12 Championships: LUBBOCK -- Deidre Tarver finished eighth in the hammer throw to give the Texas A&M women their first point in defense of their Big 12 track and field title.

Tarver threw 168 feet, 9 inches.

A&M's Christina Munoz finished the 10,000 meters in 36 minutes, 58.63 seconds to place sixth and give A&M another three points.

A&M's Daphne Fitzpatrick, competing in her first heptathlon, is in sixth after Day 1 with 2,934 points.

For A&M's men, Trinity Otto is in third place of the decathlon with 4,189 points after five events.

The meet will continue Saturday.
