Chalk Talk for Women set for July 28: The 2009 Chalk Talk for Women, which will feature Texas A&M head football coach Mike Sherman and his staff, will be at 5 p.m. July 28 at the Zone at Kyle Field.

SWIMMING

A&M women swimmers claim gold: Texas A&M women swimmers won gold medals in two major meets Wednesday.

At the World University Games in Belgrade, Serbia, Aggie senior Kristen Heiss helped the U.S. win the 800-meter freestyle relay with a split of 1:59.44. She was joined by Georgia's Morgan Scroggy and Chelsea Nauta and Auburn's Ava Ohlgren.

In Indianapolis, the Texas A&M 400 freestyle relay team of Hannah Kinder, Melissa Hain, Brenham's Maria Sommer and Sarah Woods claimed the gold medal at the U.S. World Championship trials in 3:49.29. De Anza Cupertin Aquatics was second in 3:49.68 while the University of Louisville was third in 3:50.68.

In Montreal, senior Julia Wilkinson earned her second consecutive berth to the Canadian world championship team thanks to a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter freestyle. Wilkinson posted a time of 1:59.41 during the final. Wilkinson earned a spot on the Canadian 800-meter freestyle relay team in Rome later this month. Wilkinson also earned a third-place finish in the 100 backstroke in 1:02.13.

Wilkinson was joined in the Canadian 100 backstroke final by incoming A&M freshman Tess Simpson. Simpson placed sixth in 1:03.73. Another A&M signee, Kendra Chernoff, placed fourth in the 200 butterfly final in 2:12.26.
