A&M equestrian team signs three: The Texas A&M equestrian team signed Cheyenne Cracraft, Shelby Lawson and Ellie Wilkins to national letters of intent Tuesday. Cracraft will join the reining team while Lawson and Wilkins will join the hunter seat program.

Cracraft was a finalist in reining at the 2009 American Quarter Horse Youth Association World Show this past summer in Oklahoma City and has multiple NRHA and AQHA championships under her belt.

Lawson qualified for the 2009 Zone 7 Junior Hunter Finals and was a 2009 USEF/Pessoa junior hunter seat medal qualifier.

Wilkins was the USEF Zone 8 Equitation champion the last two years.

GOLF

Former Aggie coach honored: NORMAN, Okla. -- Former Texas A&M men's golf coach Bob Ellis has been named the recipient of the Golf Coaches Association of America's Honor Award.

The Honor Award is presented annually to a member of the GCAA Hall of Fame who is retired from coaching and has made significant contributions to the game of golf.

Ellis retired at the end of the 2000-01 season after 27 years as the head men's golf coach at A&M. Under Ellis, A&M won two Southwest Conference championships and reached the NCAA Tournament 15 times. In 1998, Ellis was inducted into the National Golf Coaches Hall of Fame by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Since his retirement as the Aggies' head coach, Ellis has taught in A&M's department of kinesiology.

VOLLEYBALL

Public sendoff for Aggie women set: The Maroon Club has invited fans to help send off the Texas A&M volleyball team as it leaves Aggieland to play in the NCAA Tournament.

The event starts at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Reed Arena parking lot 100-G. The team bus will depart at noon.

The Aggies are heading to Baton Rouge, La., to face Arizona at 5 p.m. Friday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
