Aggie riders fall at SMU, TCU: The third-ranked Texas A&M equestrian team's five-show win streak ended Friday morning in a 9-3 loss to SMU at BuckBranch Farm in Wilmer. The Aggies' western team later lost 5-3 to TCU at the Fort Worth Stock Show in John Justin Arena on Friday night.

SMU (2-4) opened by sweeping all six rides in fences.

The Aggies (6-4) split the flat rides. A&M sophomore Megan Webb earned the flat's MVP honor, extending her winning streak to three with a 76-68 victory over Jenn Weeks.

Against TCU (7-5), A&M senior Caroline Gunn became the first rider in school history to reach 50 victories in the varsity format. Gunn beat TCU's Lyndsi Hardin 147-142 in horsemanship to improve her career record to 50-7-3.

A&M will face Baylor in Waco on Feb. 13.

SWIMMING & DIVING

A&M women cruise past Cougars: HOUSTON -- The No. 6 Texas A&M women's swimming and diving team defeated Houston 177-110 on Friday at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Natatorium.

The Aggies (6-1) won for the fifth straight time by winning 13 of 16 events. In fact, the Aggies had 13 1-2 finishes to dominate the meet.

A&M's Kristin Heiss and Julia Wilkinson each won two races. Heiss won the 200 freestyle (1:49.56) and the 500 freestyle (4:52.04). Wilkinson won the 200 backstroke (1:58.33) and the 200 individual medley (2:02.19).

Heiss also swam on A&M's 400 freestyle relay.

A&M's Liz Nelson won the 1,000 freestyle (10:05.23). Tess Simpson won the 100 backstroke (56.24). Rita Medrano won the 200 butterfly (2:00.85). Maria Sommer won the 50 freestyle (23.45). Sarah Woods won the 100 freestyle (50.67). Alia Atkinson won the 200 breaststroke (2:16.76) and Kendra Chernoff the 100 butterfly (55.39).

A&M will host North Texas at 1 p.m. Saturday on "Senior Day."

TENNIS

Aggie men fall to Longhorns in Texas Cup: HOUSTON -- The 17th-ranked Texas A&M men's tennis team lost 4-3 decision to eighth-ranked Texas in the nonconference Texas Cup on Friday night at the Downtown Club at the Met.

The Aggies (3-2) won two of the top three singles lines but couldn't stop Texas' perfect run in the Texas Cup. The Longhorns (4-0) have won all six.

A&M All-American Austin Krajicek beat fifth-ranked Dimitar Kutrovsky 6-7, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. A&M's Jeff Dadamo also won at No. 2 singles, and Alexey Grigorov won at No. 4 singles.

A&M will play at Tulsa (6-2) on Sunday in an indoor match.

TRACK & FIELD

Aggies win five events on Day 1 of New Balance Invitational: NEW YORK -- Texas A&M won five events and had six second-place finishes Friday at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational.

A&M's Natasha Ruddock set a meet record in the women's 60-meter hurdles (8.06 seconds), while Sandy Wooten won the women's 500 (1:12.82), Michael Preble won men's 500 (1:02.27), Jeneba Tarmoh won the women's 60 (7.29) and Daphne Fitzpatrick won the college division high jump (5 feet, 8.5 inches).

A&M's Gabby Mayo took second in the women's 60 hurdles in a career-best 8.08. Joey Roberts placed second in the men's 500 (1:02.36). Gerald Phiri placed second in the men's 60 (6.62). Tyron Stewart placed second in the men's long jump (25-8.25). Christina Munoz placed second in the women's 5,000 (16:46.37). And Sasha-Kay Matthias placed second in the women's long jump (20-6.25).
