BASEBALL

Aggies beat Bears in rare nonconference game: WACO -- John Stilson threw four hitless innings of relief to help Texas A&M hold off Baylor 4-2 on Saturday in the QTI Baylor Classic at Baylor Ballpark.

Ross Stripling (2-0) earned the victory, giving up two runs -- one earned -- on six hits over five innings with three strikeouts.

Leading 4-0 to start the bottom of the sixth, Stripling ran into trouble and lasted just three batters into the inning. Baylor's Logan Vick led off with a single, and Joey Hainsfurther reached on an error. Stripling threw a wild pitch that let Vick advance to third and Hainsfurther to second, then Max Muncy drove in Vick with a single.

Stilson took over from there, holding Baylor to one more run in the sixth on a bases-loaded walk but striking out three Bears to get out of the jam.

A&M second baseman Andrew Collazo went 4 for 5 with an RBI, while catcher Kevin Gonzalez was 2 for 4 with two RBIs.

A&M (4-2) will face Texas State at 5 p.m. Sunday in the Classic.
