Six to be inducted into A&M's Hall of Fame: Six former Texas A&M athletes and one couple will be inducted into the Texas A&M Letterman's Association Hall of Fame and Hall of Honor at the 33rd annual Burgess Banquet on Friday at the Zone.

Aggie softball standout Pattie Holthaus, running back and kick returner Leeland McElroy, cornerback Ray Mickens, pitcher Mark Ross, linebacker Aaron Wallace and goalkeeper Melanie Wilson are the 2010 Hall of Fame inductees. Carolyn and Tommie Lohman '59 will be inducted into the Hall of Honor for their support and contributions to Aggie athletics.

GOLF

Aggie men to open season in Japan: The No. 9 Texas A&M men's golf team will open its season at the 28th Annual Topy Cup at Tanagura Country Club in Japan.

The three-day, 54-hole event will tee off at 6 p.m. Wednesday CDT.

Volunteers needed for A&M women's event: Volunteers are needed to assist with The Fall Preview, a women's collegiate tournament hosted by Texas A&M set for Sept. 13-15 at Traditions Golf Club. Volunteers are needed for spoting, scoring, driving carts and timing. Tee times begin at 8 a.m. each day with the completion of the round expected to be approximately 3 p.m.

Aggie earns Big 12 award: Texas A&M soccer forward Merritt Mathias earned the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week award announced Tuesday.

A junior transfer from North Carolina, Mathias notched her first career hat trick against Davidson on Friday. Her three goals, six points, seven shots and five shots on goal were all career bests.
