Keith Davis joined in on the Texas A&M basketball teams' Maroon Madness festivities, then sat on the front row watching the Maroon & White Game two weeks ago.
When his weekend was nearly over, he felt ready to join the Aggies right then.
"I wish I was out there because I'd love to be competing against them [in practice]," Davis said. "I'd like to be out there helping with the rebounding."
Davis isn't the only one with those thoughts.
With a shortage of true frontline players this season, A&M head coach Mark Turgeon would love to have Davis -- or any of the other three big men that signed letters of intent with the Aggies on national signing day Wednesday.
Along with DeSoto's 6-foot-9, 235-pound Davis, A&M signed Dripping Springs 6-8 Daniel Alexander, Houston Bellaire's 6-8 Tobi Oyedeji and 6-9 Kourtney Roberson of Arcadia, La.
Roberson signed last year but was ruled academically ineligible. He is attending Houston's Christian Life Academy, and the Aggies made it official Wednesday that Roberson, half-brother of former A&M standout Bernard King, would be at A&M next season.
"Of all the guys coming in, he'll be more ready because of his body," Turgeon said. "Looking right now this far along in the process, [prep school] has been a great move for him."
Davis says he felt he made the right move back in early October when he orally committed to A&M over a number of other basketball programs, including Texas and Oklahoma State.
"It's very exciting knowing that I could come in and play well for them right away and help the Aggies toward a Big 12 championship and more," Davis said. "I knew if I came here instead of Texas, I could make a strong impact in the Big 12."
