The seventh-ranked Texas A&M softball team continues Big 12 Conference play on the road this weekend with a two-game series against the Texas Tech Red Raiders in Lubbock. Game 1 is set for 5 p.m. Friday with Game 2 at noon Saturday at Rocky Johnson Field.
"Texas Tech is a team we cannot take lightly," A&M head coach Jo Evans said. "They have played well against us in the past, and we will need to be on top of our game to beat them. We need to take the momentum we gained from beating Baylor in our conference opener and take that same aggressive approach with us to Lubbock. It should be a very competitive series."
Texas Tech enters the weekend series at 7-22 on the season after losing 4-3 to North Texas on Monday in Dallas. Friday's game is both Tech's home and conference opener.
A&M (29-6, 1-0 Big 12) shut out Baylor 7-0 on Wednesday at the Aggie Soccer Complex, a day after learning senior Amanda Scarborough would miss the rest of the season with a foot injury.
A&M's Megan Gibson scattered four hits and improved to 17-0 in the circle this season, dropping her ERA to 0.72. Sophomore Alex Reynolds went 3 for 3 with three RBIs to lead the Aggies at the plate.
Friday's matchup marks the 30th meeting between A&M and Tech. The two teams met three times last season, splitting the regular-season series before Tech eliminated A&M with a 4-3 victory at the Big 12 tournament.
