Aggies open strong at invitational

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Miranda Orr fired an even-par 72 on Friday to lead Texas A&M into fifth place after the first round of the PING/Arizona State Invitational at the Karsten Golf Club.

A&M shot 5-over 293 and trails leader No. 3 Southern California by 12 strokes going into Saturday's second round. The tournament concludes on Sunday. No. 4 Arizona State is in second at 288, followed by No. 8 Georgia (289) and No. 14 Oklahoma State (292).

USC's Dewi Claire Schreefel is the individual leader after posting a 4-under 68.

Orr is tied for 14th. A&M's Sarah Zwartynski is tied for 22nd after a 73. Ashley Freeman and Danielle McVeigh are tied for 32nd after 74s, and Lauren Johnson shot 79 and is tied for 69th.
