Aggies place at Penn Relays, Rice Invitational

The Texas A&M track & field team set an American record in the women's 400-meter shuttle hurdles and finished second in the 400 relay on Friday at the Penn Relays Carnival at Franklin Field.

A&M's all-U.S. team of Gabby Mayo, Whitney Holmes, Lindsey Adams and Jennifer Williams set the American record in the 400 shuttle hurdles at 52.96 seconds but finished second to LSU. The previous mark of 53.39 was set by Illinois at the 1996 Penn Relays.

LSU, which finished in 52.77, ran with three U.S. athletes and a Jamaican.

A&M (42.69) also finished second to LSU (42.59) in the 400 relay. The Aggie quartet of Khrystal Carter, Allison George, Simone Facey and Porscha Lucas ran the third-fastest time in Penn Relays history with the top preliminary time of 1:30.96 in the 800 relay qualifier.

Julian Reid took second in the long jump, Yasmine Regis finished third in the triple jump and Nick Robinson was fourth in the 400 hurdles.

Other Aggies qualifying for finals Saturday were Richard Adu-Bobie, Gerald Phiri, Dominique Stafford and Chris Dykes in the men's 400 relay, Nick Robinson, Justin Oliver, A.C. Robinson and Bryan Miller in the 1,600 relay, Lindsey Adams in the 100 hurdles, Phiri and Stafford in the men's 100 and George, Mayo and Carter in the women's 100.

Thursday at Rice, the Aggies placed 1-2-3-4-5 in the women's javelin throw and 1-2-4 in the women's discus en route to winning five events at the J Fred Duckett Twilight Meet.

A&M's winners were Deidre Tarver (hammer throw), Jessica Wingfield (javelin), Anteneshia Lindsey (discus) and Josh Tiemann (discus). Josh Posten was the top collegiate finisher in the men's javelin.
