AMES, Iowa -- The sixth-ranked Texas A&M softball team swept Iowa State with a pair of five-inning, run-rule victories Saturday at the Southwest Athletic Complex, winning 11-1 and 9-1.
The Aggies (36-6, 8-0 Big 12) remained undefeated in Big 12 play on the strength of 20 hits and two solid pitching performances over the two games.
A&M's Megan Gibson (22-0) earned the victory in Game 1, allowing one run on four hits with no walks and seven strikeouts in five innings.
In Game 2, A&M freshman Rhi Kliesing (10-4) gave up one run on seven hits and no walks with four strikeouts in five innings to earn the victory.
At the plate, A&M third baseman Jamie Hinshaw went 5 for 7 with a home run, double, four RBIs and three runs scored over the two games. Second baseman Natalie Villarreal finished 3 for 6 with a home run, double, five RBIs and three runs scored.
The Aggies will face Texas at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in Austin. The game will be broadcast on KZNE (1150 AM).
