Arp 37, Franklin 0

Eagle Staff Report

CORSICANA -- Despite winning District 20-2A, the Franklin Lions drew the unenviable task of facing the state's top-ranked team, Arp, in the first round. The Lion offense struggled while the Tiger running game was virtually unstoppable, scoring five times as Arp defeated Franklin 37-0 in the Class 2A Division I playoffs.

Both teams committed three turnovers, but Franklin's ineffectiveness to move the ball sealed its fate. The Lions had just five first downs and 101 total yards, including 3 passing yards.

Randall Rutledge led the Lions with 41 rushing yards on seven carries, while Demetri Hawkins gained 38 on 12.

On the defensive side, Franklin's Lance Walker and Bryce McKinney had interceptions. The Lions also recovered a fumble.

The Lions finish their season at 8-3.
