BRAZOS VALLEY FOOTBALL STANDOUTS

Here are the Brazos Valley standouts during Week One of the high school football season:

Iola's Heath Barney caught four passes for 103 yards and two touchdowns, had eight tackles and returned an interception 58 yards for a score in the Bulldogs' 38-14 victory over Hull-Daisetta.

In a 54-0 win over Somerville, Burton's Gabriel Patterson gained 306 rushing yards and scored three touchdowns.

Kedrin Sheppard had 185 rushing yards on 12 carries and scored five touchdowns as Caldwell beat Austin Crocket 63-0. Humberto Marichalar has 12 carries for 101 yards and two TDs and Luis Martinez returned an interception 94 yards for a score in the Hornets' second straight shutout.

Rockdale's Daniel Brooks carried 20 times for 300 yards and four touchdowns, leading the Tigers past Salado, 38-20.

Troy Green carried 26 times for 135 yards and two TDs in Brenham's 28-3 win over Lamar Consolidated.

Hearne quarterback Clifton Potts completed 7 of 16 passes for 139 yards and a touchdown in the Eagles' 22-13 victory over New Waverly.

Roy Dawson had 14 tackles (10 solos) in Brenham Christian's 60-12 win over Tomball Rosehill. Dawson threw for 156 yards and three TDs and ran for 39 yards, scoring twice.

Brazos Christian's Jaxton McNair had an interception return for a touchdown and caught a 72-yard scoring pass in a 42-18 win over Snook.

Mitchell Brewster of Snook rushed for 301 yards -- including an 89-yard touchdown run -- and had eight tackles (three behind the line) and a fumble recovery on defense.

Centerville quarterback Garrett Chase completed just 3 of 10 passes against Teague, but they went for 102 yards and two touchdowns in a 42-21 loss.

Justin Kinney ran 14 times for 101 yards with a touchdown in Bremond's 26-14 victory over Leon. Tigers quarterback Johnathon White passed for 130 yards and a touchdown and ran for 88 and another score.

In the loss, Leon quarterback Kirby Watson ran for a touchdown and completed 7 of 13 passes for 110 yards.

Cameron's Jack Rhoades hit 19 of 25 passes for 354 yards and a touchdown as the Yoemen beat La Vega 32-22. Teammate Damyon Kelley had 106 rushing yards and two touchdowns and had 74 receiving yards.

Franklin quarterback Casey Cooke completed 6 of 8 passes for 99 yards in a 61-0 victory over Houston Lutheran South.

Xavier Ward had had 24 carries for 120 yards and a touchdown and Lexington beat Blanco 23-14.

Landon Evans had 76 rushing yards and 57 passing for St. Joseph in a 47-6 loss to Katy Faith West.

Matt Schieffer ran the opening kickoff back 70 yards and scored on a 12-yard run to start Allen Academy on its way to a 53-0 win over Tomball Christian Home School JV.

BVCHEA's Tommy Clement rushed for 375 yards and seven TDs in a 50-41 district victory over Humble Christian Life.
