The Brenham Cubs weren't the only team that played for a state championship.
The Brenham Christian Eagles beat them to it, reaching the TAPPS Six-Man Division II final. They have five players named to the All-Brazos Valley 6-Man Football Team.
Just three teams played six-man football in the Brazos Valley, but all played well. Calvert, in UIL Six-Man Division I, advanced to the state semifinals. Allen Academy was a playoff team in TAPPS Division II.
Brenham Christian's big wins, and early finishes with the 45-point rule, kept the Eagles from posting even more impressive stats. Ian Roskow is on the first team offense at running back, along with center Dylan Cole. Roskow averaged 13.3 yards per carry and scored 23 touchdowns.
Calvert had three offensive starters, led by junior three-year starter Jamarcus Ashley, who threw for 1,297 yards and 27 touchdowns. He had just three interceptions.
End Andre Ross (18-455) and running back Jamison Williams (31 touchdowns) joined the Trojans' junior quarterback.
Gary Flemings led Allen Academy's power game with 1,153 yards and 27 touchdowns.
Brenham Christian had three defenders - defensive linemen Lonnie Armstrong and defensive backs Travis Cole and Kyle Armstrong.
A standout in the defensive line, Anthony Vento's position on the team was strengthened by his play at quarterback for Allen Academy's Rams. He is joined by teammate Caleb Clanton on defense.
Calvert's Chris Ramirez was the Trojans' leading tackler. A top return man, Calvert's D'vincent Williams made the team as a utility player for contributions there, as well as on offense and defense.
