Bryan Harvey pounded out 13 hits, including a home run by winning pitcher Rachel Agnello, to defeat Hearne 19-1 and claim the District 33 Minor Girls title Tuesday at Weedon Ballpark.
Harvey, which went undefeated in the tournament, advances to sectionals in Bastrop that begin July 17.
Harvey put the game away in the third inning behind Agnello's three-run, inside-the-park homer and triples by Katelyn Francis and Katie Guerrero. Harvey scored 12 runs on seven hits in the big frame, coming within one batter of batting around twice.
The game was called after four innings because of the 10-run rule.
Guerrero had two hits and Jessica Garrett and Kaitlyn Johnson each had two RBIs in the third. Johnson led the way with four RBIs for the game on two singles. Garrett and Agnello each had three RBIs, while Francis had two. Garrett, Agnello, Francis, Johnson and Guerrero each had two hits for the game.
Agnello struck out six in three innings in the circle, and Jenna Snelgrove fanned two in her one inning.
Harvey also made some stellar defensive plays, beginning with second baseman Johnson twice throwing out the speedy Jalecia Ramirez. Center fielder Brianna Salinas hauled in a hard-hit fly ball off the bat of Alyssa Cisneros, and Guerrero nixed an attempted stolen base in the fourth inning with a strong throw to second.
Allison Vaughan scored four runs, Agnello and Salinas three, and Garrett, Francis, Madison Rodgers and Guerrero two each.
Hearne, which beat Madisonville to reach the final, had two good defensive plays. Ramirez made a running catch at third before a fine play by shortstop Cisneros, who robbed Rodgers of a hit with a strong throw.
Brittany Jutson scored the Hearne run.
