CAMERON -- Cameron scored the final 10 points for a 32-22 victory over La Vega in nondistrict action Friday.
D.D. Westbrook caught a 15-yard pass from Jack Rhoades midway through the fourth quarter to give Cameron a 29-22 lead. Martin Rodriguez later secured the victory with a 34-yard field goal with 4:19 remaining.
Cameron (2-0) trailed only once, falling behind 15-14 when the Pirates' DeVonte Jones scored on a 47-yard pass from Devin McGowan then ran in the two-point conversion after the extra-point kick attempt was blocked.
Cameron's Damyon Kelley scored twice on 7-yard runs, the first to open the scoring and the second to put Cameron up 22-15. Westbrook also caught a two-point conversion pass from Rhoades after the second Kelley TD run.
Westbrook put Cameron up 14-7 on a 78-yard pas from Rhoades exactly a minute after La Vega tied it at 7 on a McGowan 9-yard run late in the first quarter.
Kelley rushed for 106 yards on 19 carries, but the Yoemen did most of their damage in the air. Rhoades hit 19 of 25 passes for 354 yards.
Westbrook had eight catches for 180 yards, while Kelley caught five for 74 and Justin Sapp caught three for 60.
Cameron hosts Rockdale next week.
