WACO -- The Cameron Yoemen started their season with an impressive balance of offense, punishing Waco Connally with 42 carries for 234 yards and completing 22 passes for 236 yards in a 38-28 victory.
Quarterback Steven Townsend threw for three scores and ran for another. Brandon Freeman, Tommy Anderson and James Wells each caught a touchdown pass from Townsend. Wells also led the team in rushing with 136 yards.
The teams alternated scores from the beginning, but it was Cameron who outscored the Cadets 14-0 in the fourth quarter to pull off the victory.
Juan Carlos Saucedo started the scoring with a 39-yard field goal in the first quarter, followed by a 5-for-5 performance kicking extra points. Saucedo's field goal was followed by a Connally fumble return for a score, which started the flip-flop scoring.
Cameron visits Gatesville at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
