TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Texas A&M's soccer team pushed top-seeded Florida State on Friday night, but the Seminoles advanced in the NCAA tournament on Jessica Price's goal in the second overtime period of a 2-1 victory at the Seminole Soccer Complex.
A&M took a 1-0 lead in the 55th minute of the third-round match on a goal by Rachel Shipley before the Seminoles' Lauren Switzer evened it 10 minutes later. With 2:01 remaining in the second overtime, Jessica Price found the back of the net.
The Seminoles improved to 18-0 in home postseason matches and will host Notre Dame in a national quarterfinal next weekend. The Aggies finished the season at 15-7-3.
"I'm incredibly proud of our players," A&M coach G. Guerrieri said. "They proved to be a pretty worthy adversary for a terrific Florida State team. ... Every one of the players on our team has a lot to be proud of. Our team has been able to battle through a lot of adversity this year and our players have been able to step up to different challenges."
Ten minutes after the break, Katie Hamilton ran at the FSU back line and found freshman Nora Skelton wide open on the right side. Skelton's shot from a step inside box hit the crossbar, and after a couple of headers Shipley blasted a low shot that bounced off the far post and into the back of the net.
Switzer's equalizer came off a long chip into the six-yard box that was headed inside the far post.
A&M goalkeeper Kristin Arnold came up with a tough stop to keep the Aggies alive in the 85th minute. A through ball to Switzer left her 1-on-1 with Arnold, but her shot to the far post was pushed wide on a diving save.
"It was a tough game and it took some great play from Florida State to get it done," Guerrieri said.
Florida State held a 7-4 shot advantage in a scoreless first half.
