Kerens 44, Leon 21

KERENS -- The Leon Cougars attempted to make a late charge against the Kerens Bobcats Friday, but it was too little, too late for the Cougars as they lost 44-21 on the road.

The Bobcats shut out the Cougars in the first half 24-0.

After falling behind 31-0 to start the second half, Leon's Seth Noey kick-started the Cougars rally when he scored on a 61-yard return.

Leon's rushing game then came alive, racking up 195 second-half yards on the ground thanks to the tandem of Noey and Chris Vasquez.

Vasquez, who recorded 90 rushing yards total, scored on a 79-yard rush 36 seconds into the fourth quarter. Noey, with 161 total rushing yards, later scored on a two-yard rush with 8:05 remaining in the game.

But Kerens had an answer for each of the Cougars' scores, never allowing them to get within the 24-point first-half differential. As a team, the Bobcats recorded 292 rushing yards, 70 passing yards and recovered five Leon fumbles in the game.

Next Friday is Homecoming week for Leon as the Cougars host Centerville.
