Bryan faces Mesquite in playoffs: The Bryan boys soccer team will open the 5A playoffs against Mesquite on Tuesday.
The match is tentatively scheduled to be played in Waco, with the start time yet to be determined. The Vikings finished fourth in District 12-5A with a 7-6-1 league record.
Bryan lost to Harker Heights, 2-1, in its regular-season finale Monday. Alex Cruz scored the Vikings' goal, which was assisted by Daniel Balke.
The Bryan JV team beat Heights 2-1.
POWERLIFTING
Navasota runner-up at regional meet: WACO -- Navasota finished second at the Division II Region II boys powerlifting meet Saturday at La Vega High School.
The Rattlers finished with 25 points.
Dewan Davis was second in the 275-plus class. Kolbly Castillo (123), Kendrick Armstead (148), Rodney Brown (220) and Cedric Collins (275+) each had third-place finishes. Bryan Vizuet (123), Scott McDuffie (275) and Jacob Bohannon (275+) finished fourth in their respective classes.
Nathan Mallard (220) and Autra Maxey (242) were fifth, John Acosta (132) and Cruz Rodriguez (242) were sixth, and Xavier Franklin (165) and Juan Nunez (198) had seventh-place finishes.
