LEXINGTON -- The Lexington Eagles beat the Mart Panthers 21-14 in a battle of stout ground games.
Eagle running back Xavier Ward had two rushing touchdowns of 58 and 5 yards, finishing with 111 yards on just eight carries to lead the Lexington attack. Quarterback Josh Murray added 82 yards of his own while running back Clint Hutson had 66 yards and a touchdown along with five catches for 30 yards.
Ward gave Lexington (2-0) a 14-0 lead. Mart answered just before halftime to cut the lead in half.
Following a scoreless third quarter, Hutson ran for a 34-yard score extending Lexington's lead to 14. Mart's Anthony Martin then scored from 47 yards out, but Lexington held on.
The Eagles ran for 258 yards, topping Mart's 224. The two teams combined for only 109 passing yards.
Lexington will travel to Cameron next Friday.
