Six Brazos Valley football teams have extended their seasons beyond Thanksgiving.
Milano (8-3), the runner-up from District 27-A, rolled to a 42-0 victory over Leakey while Bremond awaited the winner. The 8-2 Tigers, ranked seventh in the final Associated Press high school football poll, will meet Milano at 7:30 Friday at Cameron Yoe Stadium.
Two of Milano's three losses were to state-ranked teams still in action -- Granger and Normangee. The Bremond-Milano game is the only pairing of two Brazos Valley playoff teams this week, but state-ranked teams dot the schedule.
The 9-1 Normangee Panthers, who were ninth in the last AP poll of the regular season, play the Granger Lions, who finished 10-1 and are ranked No. 6. Normangee and Granger play at A&M Consolidated's Tigerland Stadium at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Granger's sole loss was to Class 2A Division II's Blanco, a 10-1 team still playing in the postseason. Bremond's 48-41 victory over Normangee was the only games the Panthers lost.
Navasota, a 41-20 winner over Needville last week, will play the Jasper Bulldogs in a Class 3A Division I area matchup at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Humble's Turner Stadium.
Caldwell, whose only loss in a 9-1 season came to district rival Giddings, plays 10-1 Kirbyville at 6 p.m. Saturday at Turner Stadium. All three playoff teams from both districts are still in action. In another Division I game set for Pearland, 23-3A champion Giddings (11-0), the state's top-ranked 3A team, faces District 21 winner and seventh-ranked West Orange-Stark (10-1) at 7 p.m. Friday at Pearland.
Calvert (11-0), ranked third all season by sixmanfootball.com, faces Blanket (4-6) at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Moody. The Web site ranks Blanket 48th overall and 35th in Division I for the 6-man regional playoff game. It is the first playoff game for Blanket, which had a bye last week. Calvert defeated Rochelle 64-35 in bi-district.
