LEXINGTON -- The Lexington Eagles couldn't stop a late charge by the Rice Consolidated Raiders and lost 26-22 on Friday.
The Lexington defense forced a safety with 9:29 left in the third quarter to cut Rice Consolidated's lead to 6-2.
Lexington's Xavier Ward then scored on a 3-yard run to give the Eagles a 9-6 to start the fourth quarter.
Lexington padded the lead on Josh Murray's 20-yard TD run, but Rice Consolidated (2-1) scored twice over a 3-minute span to take a 20-16 lead. The Raiders then put the game away by returning an interception for a score with 25 seconds left.
Lexington's Rheim Petterson returned the ensuing kickoff 73 yards for a touchdown with 5 seconds left.
Lexington (2-2) opens District 25-2A play next week at Lago Vista.
