PALM HARBOR, Fla. -- Two Texas A&M women's basketball players were selected in the same WNBA draft for the first time in the program's history Wednesday.

Guard Morenike Atunrase was taken in the second round (24th overall) by the expansion Atlanta Dream, but she was then traded to the San Antonio Silver Stars in a five-player swap.

"It feels great," Atunrase said. "This is something I have worked hard for over the last four years, and Texas A&M has prepared me well. It's another new and exciting chapter in my life."

Point guard A'Quonesia Franklin later was taken in the third round (38th overall) by the Sacramento Monarchs.

"I feel so honored and blessed to have the opportunity to possibly play behind two great point guards in Kara Lawson and Ticha Penicheiro," Franklin said. "I hope to learn a lot from them as a rookie and I want to thank the Sacramento Monarchs for taking a chance on me."

Atunrase and Franklin became only the third and fourth A&M players selected in the WNBA draft. Jaynetta Saunders was the first, going in the second round (27th overall) in 2001 to the Cleveland Rockers, while point guard Toccara Williams was taken in the third round (34th overall) in 2004 by the Silver Stars.

"I'm just so happy for Morenike and Aqua, because they have been very special to our program," A&M women's head coach Gary Blair said. "They are now standing tall and will represent A&M well."

The Aggies, who won the Big 12 tournament and reached the NCAA Tournament's Elite Eight for the first time, also learned Wednesday of their final ranking in both major national polls, finishing a school-best eighth in the last Associated Press and USA Today/ESPN polls of the season.
