The Texas A&M System is seeking a new contractor for its Health Science Center campus in Bryan after negotiations with its original prospect fell apart, officials confirmed Thursday.
A&M System spokesman Frank Griffis said the company with which administrators had been working couldn't guarantee that the cost wouldn't exceed the $128 million budgeted for the project.
Griffis said he didn't know what cost the company had quoted to A&M officials. It was unclear late Thursday which company A&M had been working with.
The system will go through another competitive sealed-bid process to find a new contractor, Griffis said.
The Health Science Center campus is expected to be on 200 acres along Texas 47. The site is to be a place where the Health Science Center can consolidate its programs and administration.
Though a master plan hasn't been unveiled, the first two buildings were scheduled to open in summer 2010.
Griffis said Thursday that the change in contractors wasn't expected to delay construction or to push back the opening date.
