A&M official is finalist for New Mexico post
Texas A&M Vice President and Associate Provost for Diversity Tito Guerrero III recently was named a finalist for the job of provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at the University of New Mexico.
He is expected to meet faculty, staff and students during a series of interviews Monday and Tuesday, officials at the Albuquerque campus said.
Guerrero is one of two finalists for the slot, which is expected to be filled this spring, said Karen Wentworth, a spokeswoman for the school. The other is Suzanne Trager Ortega, vice provost and dean of the graduate school at the University of Washington.
From 2001-06, Guerrero served as the president of Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches. He was president of the University of Southern Colorado from 1997-2001 and provost and vice president for academic affairs at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi from 1991-97.
At Corpus Christi, he served as vice president for student affairs, professor of education and dean of students and was a Kellogg National Leadership Fellow.
Guerrero serves as chairman of the board of visitors for Air University, U.S. Air Force. He is an editorial board member for Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education and the SAM Advanced Management Journal.
He is a tenured full professor in the A&M College of Education and Human Development. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in health education and biology from A&M in 1970. He has a master's degree from the University of North Texas and a Certificate of Applied Science and a doctorate in education from Harvard.
