Texas A&M has distributed $3.28 million from its alumni organization, the Association of Former Students, officials said Tuesday.
The funding includes $1 million for scholarships, more than $40,000 for student success initiatives, and $500,000 for several programs under the student affairs division, such as $90,000 for the Aggie Band to offset travel expenses.
"We're very fortunate at Texas A&M," said Texas A&M President R. Bowen Loftin, in a news release. "Many university alumni associations require subsidies from their university to support their operations. As an independent organization, however, our Association provides valuable annual funding to the university and has also helped us with some unexpected needs in the past."
Proposals for the annual funding were made earlier this year to a university committee, which then made recommendations to the association's board of directors.
