A&M summit to celebrate black heritage

Texas A&M University's annual Black Former Student Network Summit begins Thursday and will feature talks by a variety of speakers, including state lawmakers, a business executive and a nationally syndicated columnist.

The theme of the 2008 Black Former Student Network Summit is Honoring the Legacy, which organizers say commemorates previous generations who pushed for progress and challenges future generations to continue to do the same.

The summit is being held in conjunction with the 20th annual Southwestern Black Student Leadership Conference at Texas A&M. The groups come together annually to discuss issues facing the black community.

The four-day summit includes panels and presentations by state Sen. Royce West, State Rep. Senfronia Thompson, business executive Randal Pinkett and nationally syndicated columnist Roland Martin. Newly appointed Texas A&M President Elsa Murano will provide an update on the status of blacks at Texas A&M.

Registration and a detailed agenda is available at www.bfsn.org. Former and current students as well as campus personnel can participate.
