Two Texas A&M University football players have been arrested in relation to an aggravated robbery in College Station, police said.
Yemi Babalola and Brandon Joiner were arrested at their homes Wednesday by police serving search warrants while investigating a Nov. 29 robbery.
Police searched Babalola's home at 1 p.m. and found a small amount of marijuana and evidence from the robbery, officials said. Then, acting on information obtained while searching Babalola's home, officials searched Joiner's residence and found marijuana, Ecstasy and hydrocodone, according to police reports.
Babalola, 21, was charged with two counts of aggravated robbery, and Joiner, 18, was charged with a third-degree felony and a class A misdemeanor charge of drug possession. Police said the investigation is ongoing and more charges could be filed.
Babalola was being held Wednesday night in the Brazos County Jail in lieu of $52,000 bail. Joiner had not been booked into the jail late Wednesday.
Aggravated robbery is a first-degree felony and caries a punishment of five to 99 years in prison.
The robbery occurred at the Callaway Villas apartment complex the afternoon of Nov. 29. According to police, two men entered an apartment and punched the resident who opened the door.
Two people in the apartment were bound with tape while one of the intruders pointed a gun at them, police said. The men then took items from the apartment and left on foot, according to police.
Texas A&M associate athletic director Alan Cannon said the university would cooperate with the police investigation "to get to the bottom of this as soon as possible."
The 6-foot-4, 315-pound Babalola, a junior offensive tackle, has made 21 career starts with the Aggies, including six this season.
Babalola starred at Bryan High, where he averaged seven knockdowns per game as a senior. The two-time all-district player was named the team's offensive MVP following his senior year. He also competed in track and field, advancing to the regional meet in the discus as a junior.
Joiner, a redshirt freshman, is a defensive end from Killeen Shoemaker. He was rated the state's 57th best recruit by Rivals.com. He earned all-state honors last year after 93 tackles, seven sacks, six pass deflections and three forced fumbles.
Joiner had hernia surgery Aug. 10, and missed part of fall drills.
