The Perfect Choice.... I'll bet less than 1/2 of 1% is disgruntled with this selection so your use of "the A&M Student Body's desire" basically speaks for the very few. 99% are proud to have a visionary and a leader like General Weber as a part of the administrative staff. Folks.... you don't make it to the rank of Lt. General without having all of the qualifications that you are so concerned about. He is a perfect choice and we all ought to be proud to have him back on the A&M campus. Best of luck General Weber.

Comment Title: QUALIFICATIONS?
folks, since when did 35 years as a Marine officer, the last several of which were served as Commanding General of MASSIVE organizations, not qualify one to be a VP for student services? What do you think Marine officers do if not to mentor, teach, and coach young men and women between the ages of 18 and 24. Wow, almost NO similarity to what a VP for student services would do. No working with budgets, no interaction with foreign nationals, no ability to take broad vision and translate it into concrete steps. Yep, we should go find somebody more "qualified." The fact that Lieutenant General Weber (and he's not a "mister" folks, he's a general) is an Aggie is a bonus. He is qualified no matter how you slice it. Best of luck General. You won't need it though.

Comment Title: We deserve a better effort in selection process
Another step away from world class university when the VP of Student Affairs does not rank a national search. Makes one wonder who his powerful classmate might be. I see no experience or qualifications that should be a part of the resume' of a candidate for this job.

Comment Title: FOOLISH DECISION
WHAT HAPPENED TO PROCESS AND SEARCH; Aggies are scared to do national search to find bright people who will challenge their intelligence or lack of. This is a state school and they have forgotten about any/all process and soon the auditors/federal people will come and clean the house.

A national search would have lead Pres. Murano to base her decision on "recent interactions". There are many of us who are happy with this decision. Once again, those who are not happy with the decision, denigrate the process. Good luck, Mr. Weber. Semper Fi.

Comment Title: Sad
I guess the only criteria one needs these days to get employeed at A&M is to be an Aggie. One can only assume this was a political favor. Murano is quoted as saying that her recent interactions with Weber helped her decide he should be the next VP of Student Affairs, which leads us to believe she only met him recently. I guess decisions made on a whim by an office so important to the school can be made with very little disregard to the rest of the Aggie family. While I understand decisions need to be made quickly, they shouldn't be disrespectful of the student body's desire to do a national search, especially since this position is so involved with students. Being an Aggie alone is not sufficient qualifications nor should understanding A&M's valued traditions be the core reason a VP for Student Affairs is hired. Good luck Mr. Weber.
