A mock shooting will occur on the Texas A&M University campus Thursday as part of an exercise to test the readiness of emergency responders.
As many as 200 university, city, county and hospital employees, along with local and state law enforcement agencies, will take part in the simulation, which will include volunteer actors serving as victims and one or more people firing shots.
No weapons will be used, said Chris Meyer, the university's vice president for safety and security.
"We will do everything possible to ensure that we proactively avoid any such incidents," he said. "But, still, we are determined to be prepared for any eventuality to the fullest extent possible."
Thursday was selected because classes have ended and few activities are scheduled on campus, Meyer said. Radio communications related to the drill will begin and end with the announcement, "This is an exercise."
