A public reception is scheduled Tuesday for a Purdue University dean vying to become the next executive vice president for academics and provost at Texas A&M University.
Jeffrey Vitter, the Frederick L. Hovde dean of the College of Science at Purdue, is one of two candidates in the running for the post.
Robert Newman, dean of humanities and associate vice president for interdisciplinary studies at the University of Utah, also has been named a candidate.
The post has been vacant since David Prior left one year ago to take a higher level post within the University of Texas System. Mays Business School Dean Jerry Strawser has been serving in the interim.
Vitter will be publicly introduced during a 3 p.m. reception at the J. Wayne Stark University Center Galleries. The 90 minute reception will kick off with a brief presentation and include a question and answer session.
A reception for Newman is scheduled for 3 p.m. Thursday and has the same format.
