Texas A&M University will honor six of its fallen students on Tuesday during Silver Taps, the first such ceremony of the 2008-09 school year.
First held in 1898, Silver Taps was created as a way to honor Aggies who died while enrolled at Texas A&M. It is held on the first Tuesday of the month at 10:30 p.m. in front of the Academic Building on campus and is considered one of the university's most solemn traditions.
The service will pay tribute to six students who died during the last five months. They are:
* Whitley DeKoch Lowey, a sophomore agricultural leadership and development major from Kingsville who died April 4.
* Kyle Ross Rosebrock, a senior computer science major from Buda who died April 12.
* Mary Elizabeth Farmer, a graduate student in psychology from College Station who died May 15.
* Spencer Bonham Knecht, a junior geology major from Spring who died June 18.
* Cassandra Jeannine Scott, a veterinary medicine graduate student from Sherman who died July 27.
* Olanrewaju (Lanre) Olusola Sanu, a senior chemical engineering major from Houston who died Aug. 2.
The ceremony will be moved inside to G. Rollie White Coliseum in the event of rain or lightning. Free parking is available in the University Center Garage between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m.
