Mr. & Mrs. Gene Verwold of College Station, celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on April 19, 2008. The couple exchanged vows on Saturday April 19, 1958 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Caldwell, Texas.  Rev V.A. Svrcek officiated. Following the wedding, a reception was held at the church hall. The couple honeymooned in College Station, Texas. Miss Evelyn Marie Vykukal was a graduate of Caldwell High School and Durham Business College in Austin Texas. She moved to Houston, Texas after their marriage and worked for Ingersoll Rand.

Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose (Brose) Boubel of College Station are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on April 18th, 2008.  The couple eloped on April 18th, 1958 in a ceremony in Rosenberg, Texas.  She is the former Doreene Frizzell. Brose and Doreene are blessed with three children, Jeannine Smith, Paige Carlin and Ben Boubel, one son-in-law, Ike Smith; and six grandchildren Gloria Smith, Alex and Adam Carlin, and Hannah, Blake and Bennett Boubel.

The couple exchanged vows on March 1, 1958, at Southside Church of Christ in Brownwood, Texas, with Cecil B. Douthitt officiating. She is the former Bettie Jean Casson. Wallace and Bettie are blessed with two daughters and one son-in-law, Stacie Merchant and Leslie and Bubba Bishop, all of Bryan; and three grandchildren, Joshua, Derek and Cali Bishop, all of Bryan.

Ann Marie Goodall and Ken Michael Lapham were united in marriage at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 17, 2007, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in College Station. The double ring ceremony was officiated by Deacon Ted Baker and Monsignor Michael Mulvey. Music was provided by Anita Kapchinski. Scripture readings were given by the father of the bride, Dr. Gary Goodall, and friend of the bride, Dr. Dave Schmitz. The bride is the daughter of Dr. Gary and the late Deborah Goodall of College Station and the granddaughter of the late Clarice and the late Charles Goodall of Delmar, Iowa, and Patricia Stephens of Taylorville, Ill.

Barbara M. (Robertson) and Zelton Ray Hutchinson were honored by family and friends on this 50th anniversary of their wedding date on Saturday, February 23, 2008, in Chriesman, Texas. Ray, from Laurel, Miss., was stationed at Bryan Air Force Base and met Barbara at the USO Club in downtown Bryan. Barbara and Ray were married at First Baptist Church in College Station on February 22, 1958.

Jim and Elizabeth Baker Batson celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married February 1, 1958 at First Baptist Church in Madisonville, Texas, by Rev. W. W. Baker. They have three children, Kim and husband, Scott Sutphen, Sandy and husband, Carl Walthall, and Wes and wife, Kim Batson, all of Bryan. They have been blessed with grandchildren, Stephen and wife, Elyse Sutphen, Sheldon Sutphen, Chris Walthall, Brandon Walthall, Kaitlynn Batson, Kyle Batson and Kaleb Batson, and one great-grandson, Joshua Sutphen, all of Bryan. Jim started in the automotive business in Bryan-College Station in 1960 and was the owner of Batson Tire Center and the Farm Bureau Tire Dealer for over 25 years. Liz retired from the nursing profession. They have been active members of Central Baptist Church for over 40 years.

Myron and Sue Willard Gantt of College Station are celebrating their golden wedding anniversary. They were married on February 2, 1958, at First Methodist Church in Giddings, Texas, by the Rev. Thomas Holcomb. They are blessed with two sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Lynne Gantt of Bryan and Bobby and Christy Gantt of College Station; and seven grandchildren, Natalie McCarty, Colton, John, Sara, Josh, Jessie and Jordan Gantt. Myron graduated with an accounting degree from Texas A&M University in 1957 and a master’s of education degree in educational administration in 1982. He retired in 2000. Sue retired in 1999 after 30 years in the Department of Veterinary Physiology and Pharmacology at Texas A&M University.

Marvin and Geraldine Schneider renewed their wedding vows and had a special blessing from Monsignor John A. McCaffrey at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan on Sunday, January 27, 2008. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their family at Oxford Street Restaurant. Their children hosted the dinner. Marvin and Geraldine were married on January 25, 1958, at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Granger, Texas, with the Rev. Ben Mazurkewitz officiating. Marvin was the owner and operator of Jimmy’s Drive-in Grocery and Marvin’s Drive-in Grocery in Navasota for over 30 years. Geraldine is retired from Texas Agricultural Extension Services on the Texas A&M University Campus.

They have lived in College Station for most of their married life. Willis and Mary Mitchell will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, January 19, 2008, with a ceremony and reception at Second Missionary Baptist Church in Fayetteville, N.C. Willis is formerly of Bryan and Mary is originally from Fayetteville, N.C. After graduating from E. A. Kemp High School in Bryan, Willis spent the next 30 years in the U.S. Army achieving the rank of Sergeant Major. As a field artillery and command retention noncommissioned officer with the famed 82nd Airborne Division, he served tours in Germany, Vietnam, Korea and Italy. Willis currently pastors the Solid Rock Bible Church in Hope Mills, N.C. Between balancing the demands of childrearing and life as a military spouse, Mary worked for the Fayetteville-Cumberland County School System and Fayetteville Technical Institute, the local community college.

On January 31, 1958, Jesse and Beverly Watson of College Station united their lives together at Calvary Baptist Church in Beeville, Texas. The late Rev. Creath Davis of Dallas officiated the ceremony. Afterwards, a reception was given in the home of Hoyt and Bea Watson. On that day, their journey of building a life dedicated to the Lord began. The legacy they bless their family with is one filled with a testimony of unconditional love and service, to each other, their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and to the many who they have come to know. There will be a family gathering on January 31, 2008, to celebrate the “happy golden years of 50.” They will be going on an extended trip provided by their children at a later date. Celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary, Albert Ray and Helen Pearl Hennessy Scasta were united in matrimony on December 23, 1947, at the First Presbyterian Church in Tacoma, Wash., by Dr. J. Renwick McCullough. They honeymooned in Hollywood, Calif., and then continued on to Austin, where Albert completed his degree in business at the University of Texas in 1949 and became a teacher at the high school in Dripping Springs, Texas.

For over 30 years, Stephen was a part of the Bryan Independent School District and Mable worked for the Agricultural Extension Service, a part of Texas A&M University. After retiring, they enjoyed traveling in the summers and spending the winters at the Tip of Texas in Pharr, Texas, where they made friends with people from all over the continental United States, Canada and Alaska.

They are blessed with a daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Leroy Miller of Katy, Texas; and grandchildren, Anna and Lee Miller of Katy, Texas. Duncan retired from the armed forces in 1970, after serving in the U.S. Navy in World War II and the U.S. Army during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was employed as a teacher for College Station ISD and retired from Blinn College in 1993.

They also enjoyed a luxury cruise to Nova Scotia with Betty’s sister and brother-in-law, Bobbie and Doug Allred. Don and Betty were married on August 27, 1957 in Waco, Texas. They moved to Bryan in 1961, where they raised three children, Hayes Robertson, the late Rusty Robertson and Deane Robertson. They also have five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Patricia Ann Hanyan and Glendale Boyd Rand celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a family dinner hosted by their two sons and daughters-in-law, Casey and Suzie Rand and Garry and Tracy Rand, all of Houston; and grandchildren, Ryan, Tyler and Lakin, of Houston. The dinner was held at Christopher’s World Grille in Bryan. During the evening meal, a pianist, accompanied by a soloist, performed the song “Always” from their wedding day, along with love songs from the 50s and 60s. Glendale also presented Patricia with 50 roses representing each year of their marriage. Upon graduation from Texas A&M University, Patricia Hanyan and Glendale Rand were married on September 28, 1957, in their hometown of Groesbeck, Texas, where they were high school sweethearts at Groesbeck High School. Glendale spent 30 years working for Exxon and medically retired as a district sales manager. During this time, they relocated 17 times to various locations. Glendale served his country as an artillery officer for 14 months in Korea. In addition, he was recalled from the reserves to active duty in the Berlin Crisis and served another 13 months at Fort Polk, La. Patricia had a full time job raising three boys and being a devoted wife.

Charles and Beverly (Zemanek) Dyer of College Station will celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary on September 2, 2007. Graduates of Stephen F. Austin High School in Bryan, they were high school sweethearts who met during a band trip. Charles and Beverly were married at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bryan on Labor Day weekend in 1962. Upon graduation from Texas A&M in 1963, Charles accepted a position in Houston, where the couple lived for 37 years. They both retired from ExxonMobil and moved to College Station in 2000. Retirement has allowed them to be active with St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Newcomer’s Club, ExxonMobil Retiree Club, Brazos County A&M Club and Texas A&M sporting events. They also enjoy traveling and spending time with their children and grandson.

Philip J. Haas Jr. married JoAnn Scanlin on September 1, 1957 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Bryan. Exactly 50 years later, they celebrated their golden anniversary by having a Mass and blessing of their vows by Monsignor John McCaffrey at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Their children hosted a dinner reception following the Mass. A video of their wedding and a slide show of their family history through the years were shown. Phil, Texas A&M class of 1957, is an architect retired from the Texas A&M University System Facilities & Planning Division after 30 years of service. He is also a retired Lt. Col. with the U.S. Army Reserves. JoAnn retired after 20 years of service with the Bryan Independent School District.

The couple is blessed with two sons and a daughter-in-law, Richard “Rick” and Sue Ferguson of Bryan and Mark Ferguson of Houston.Richard retired in 2004, he was the owner and operator of Mathis Auto Service. Billie retired from the City of Bryan’s City Attorney’s office as a legal assistant in 1996. She worked for the city for more than 33 years.

Ben and Bennie Ferro were married on August 25, 1957 at the Ripley House in Houston. They moved to Bryan in 1970 and went into the grocery business. They owned and operated Ben’s Grocery and Ferro’s Grocery. They retired in October 2004 after 30 successful years in business.Ben and Bonnie are blessed with a wonderful family: sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Pam Ferro, Tony and Mary Ferro, all of Bryan, and Bryon and Amber Ferro of Tomball; daughter and son-in-law, Delisa and Jack Falks of College Station; and four beautiful grandchildren, Joey and Jenny Ferro, Claudia Martinez and Jackson Ferro.To celebrate their 50th anniversary, they traveled to Galveston Island with their family on the weekend of August 3 and 4, 2007. On the evening of their 50th anniversary, they dined in Houston with their children and their families.

Clint claims that 13 has always been his lucky number and tomorrow, he and Bettye will celebrate 13 years of wedded bliss! Clint is a retired College Station postmaster and Bettye is retired from 41 years on staff at A&M. They had a wonderful 13th “honeymoon” cruise to Grand Cayman, Cozumel and Jamaica! They are mentors in the HOSTS program at Neal Elementary, and are thoroughly enjoying the life of retirement!
