Our Neighbors: Texas A&M Department of Biomedical Engineering

Gerard Coté, the Charles H. and Bettye Barclay Professor and head of the Texas A&M Department of Biomedical Engineering, recently was named 2012 Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.


Coté is being recognized for the "development of innovative optical sensors for in vitro and in vivo medical diagnosis and monitoring," according to the IEEE. Selected annually, the designation of Fellow is reserved for less than one-tenth of one percent of the total voting Institute membership in any year. With more than 385,000 members worldwide, the IEEE is the world's leading professional association for advancing technology for humanity and a leading authority on areas ranging from aerospace systems, computers and telecommunications to biomedical engineering, electric power and consumer electronics.


Coté is also a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering and was recently named Fellow of the Biomedical Engineering Society and Fellow of the International Society for Optics and Photonics.
