Eagle Staff Report

Officials are investigating the cause of a fire in Millican that destroyed a mobile home and killed nine dogs inside Monday afternoon.

South Brazos County volunteer fire crews were dispatched to the home shortly after 3:30 p.m. and spent about two hours on the scene, Fire Chief Emily Staples said. Two trucks from College Station assisted.

Staples said that when she arrived on the scene, it was clear that the home was not salvageable.

Within a few minutes of getting there, Staples said, the windows and door exploded, confirming that it was a flashover -- a fire that starts inside and quickly spreads, often becoming trapped, causing combustion.

No one was injured and the two occupants were at work when the fire started, officials said.
