A 21-year-old College Station man was charged with hitting his pregnant girlfriend after the pair fought over whether to keep a gun in the house, court documents state.
College Station police responding to a call from the 3100 block of Cain Road at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday said a woman told them William Dewayne Dickson hit her several times in the face and once in the back, according to the documents. She told officers the “punches hurt but not as bad as other times he hit me,” according to the police report.
The woman told police she confronted Dickson about a gun he brought home because she was concerned her children would be able to get to it, and that’s when he turned violent, the documents state.
Dickson has prior convictions of assault causing bodily injury to a family member, which enhanced his charge Wednesday.
He was charged with assault involving family violence with previous convictions, which is a third-degree felony punishable by two to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
The woman requested an emergency protective order against Dickson to prevent further family violence, police said.
Dickson remained in the Brazos County Jail on Thursday morning without bail.
