Prosecutors say Alex Ford violated terms of bond for intoxicated assault
Brazos County prosecutors have asked a judge to revoke the appeal bond for Alex Ford, the 23-year-old woman convicted of intoxicated assault for a drunk driving accident that left a College Station police officer without the ability to walk.
Ford will return to the 85th District Courtroom on Feb. 10 for a hearing in front of Judge J.D. Langley. If the judge grants the motion by the Brazos County District Attorney's Office, Ford could be returned to jail while awaiting the results of the appeals process.
Ford was sentenced to six years in prison in May after a jury found her responsible for a 2010 head-on collision with patrol officer Tracy Sheets, a 16-year veteran.
Immediately after the trial, Ford was released from jail after posting $40,000 bail and agreeing to several bond conditions.
She wasn't expected back in court until the appeal process had been completed, which typically takes 1 1/2 to two years.
The district attorney's office is asking the bond be revoked based on accusations that Ford violated bond conditions.
One of the conditions is that she not use or possess alcohol or go to a place where alcohol is sold as the main source of revenue, such as a bar or club. She also was given a 9 p.m. curfew, according to court documents.
In the motion to revoke her bond, assistant district attorney Doug Howell alleged that Ford had had drunk alcohol in a Harris County bar on New Year's Eve and had violated the curfew on Oct. 15.
Prosecutors declined to discuss how they discovered the alleged violations or the circumstances surrounding them.
Ford's Houston-based appeals attorney, Brian Wice, said he planned to "vigorously defend Alex against any allegations."
Wice said he'll be requesting evidence information from prosecutors concerning their claims, which he anticipates will include Facebook photos taken of Ford.
"I hope no court in this country would revoke an appeals bond based on a risqué photo or two from Facebook," he said.
College Station police spokeswoman Officer Rhonda Seaton said Sheets -- who remains employed by College Station police -- recently underwent ankle surgery and is recovering.
