More than $35,000 was presented to 12 Bryan school district teachers on Friday.

The Bryan ISD Education Foundation surprised the teachers at the 12 different campuses with news they'd won the cash awards.

The "Grants To Teachers" program awarded 28 grants that were handed out by members of the foundation's board. Grants are provided for projects that have a potential to enhance the learning process and for which funding is not otherwise available.

Projects included funding for laptops for counselors on four secondary campuses and curriculum materials to boost math, science and reading skills at the elementary level.

The foundation has awarded more than $300,000 to teachers since its inception, as well as more than $300,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors and more than $100,000 for district projects.
