Woman trying to reunite high school class ring with owner
A Burleson County woman is looking for 1969 graduates of Lamar Consolidated High School with hopes of returning a class ring.
Sadie Zboril of Lyons said she discovered four class rings in her parents' attic after they died.
Zboril has already found two of the rings' owners: one was in Iowa and the other was in Goliad.
"It's taken up a lot of time. It really has," she said. "But it's been so exciting. When I got that first ring returned to its owner and knew how excited he was to get that back, it just made me keep going."
The fourth ring is from a school in Indiana, she said. But right now, she's focusing on finding the owner of the Lamar Consolidated ring and is looking for help finding people who graduated from the school in Rosenberg, southwest of Houston, in hopes of identifying the initials inscribed on the ring.
"If one of those were mine and someone found it, then I hope that they would try to do the same," she said. "I didn't have any need for them. My grandkids played with them, but I always make sure we put them back up until I decided I would spend some time to try and locate the owners."
Zboril's parents died two years ago. She discovered the rings while cleaning out their house.
She said her parents had a hobby of searching areas like Lake Somerville -- where the first two owners lost their rings -- with metal detectors in search of hidden treasures. She said her parents collected numerous old coins, jewelry and other trinkets over the years.
Internet searches, talks with schools' current administrators and digging through old yearbooks helped her find the owners of the first two rings, she said.
Zboril said the first ring she returned was a championship ring from the wresting team of the University of Northern Iowa.
"He was thrilled to get it back because it was specially made for his team," she said.
The second ring has been dropped in the mail and is headed to Goliad, she said.
"His wife knows it's coming, but she didn't tell [her husband] about it, so she's going to surprise him," she said.
There have been few leads to finding the owner of the Lamar Consolidated High School ring, she said. Anyone who might be able to help is encouraged to email Zboril at s38671@peoplepc.com.
"I didn't know how any of this was going to turn out," she said. "It's been pretty interesting. But I'm not through with it yet. I'm determined to get those last two back home."
