College Station woman charged with abandoning a child
A 23-year-old College Station woman was arrested Wednesday on a charge of endangering her child.
College Station police said they responded to the 600 block of Holleman Drive East about 12:30 a.m. for a report of an unconscious person. The woman -- Ashley Marie Ellen -- was arrested for public intoxication after she was found asleep in her parked vehicle, police said.
Ellen, 23, told the arresting officers that her 18-month-old child was alone at her residence on Milner Drive, according to police reports. The child had been left alone for about two and a half hours, police said.
Ellen was then charged with abandoning a child, a state jail felony, punishable by 180 days to two years behind bars and a fine not to exceed $10,000.
