Police: Drunken mom left baby home alone

A 23-year-old College Station woman was arrested Wednesday on a charge of endangering her child.


Police said Ashley Marie Ellen was found asleep in her parked vehicle in the 600 block of Holleman Drive East at about 12:30 a.m. and was arrested for public intoxication.


Ellen, 23, told the arresting officers that her 18-month-old child was alone at her residence on Milner Drive. The child had been left alone for about two and a half hours, police said.


Ellen was then charged with abandoning a child, a state jail felony, punishable by 180 days to two years behind bars and a fine not to exceed $10,000.


She remained in the Brazos County Jail on Wednesday without bail.
